Depending on where we go, Alex and I like to take the time to take pictures at night or in the early morning. There is something special about being almost the only ones out and about during blue hour waiting for the sun to rise. Getting up early means that we need a siesta in the afternoon. In winter that means lounging in our room before getting ready for dinner and in summer spending an hour or two staring at the sea.
On our first night in Rome, we hauled our tripods with us and went for a photo session along the river Tiber before dinner. It was windy and cold, but worth it.
You can read about our early morning visit to the Vatican here, and the following morning we were out and about to photograph the Colosseum during the blue hour. Apart from the odd early morning jogger and Carabinieri hanging out in a car, we were alone.
As the sun rose higher, we rushed to the Capitoline Hill to catch the actual sunrise over the Roman Forum. Here we came across a few other photographers.
Oh! This looks like it was so much fun. Adore the reflections in the Tiber, and want to go explore the ruins. Also, I’m trying to imagine getting up for a morning jog and being able to just pop by the colosseum while out–how amazing that would be!
What a treat to roam around at night. I especially like the photos of the Colosseum and the Forum Romanum. Nice work!
These photos are just gorgeous. We did get up early to watch the sunrise over Zabriskie Point and I’m so glad we did. It is a very special time, being out there waiting for the first rays to appear. Great job!
