Swiss Historic Hotels are a common feature on this blog as they are a passion of mine. A colleague of mine had waxed poetic about Schloss Schadau which had just joined the Swiss Historic Hotel group, and since I was sort of in the area, I decided to stay a night. It was every much as wonderful as my colleague promised. In fact, I wanted to move in right then and there!
The location is amazing. Set in a large park on Lake Thun, this castle was built in 1852. The park was opened to the public in 1860 and remains a place where the locals and visitors come to enjoy the area. The castle has been a popular place to dine and celebrate weddings, but in 2017, it closed for renovations. Reopening in 2019, the castle now offers nine hotels rooms.
I had a most delicious three course dinner while sitting at the front window overlooking the lake, just as it started to rain. After dinner, I walked down to the lake and through the park in the rain before retiring to my extremely comfortable room. This is certainly a hotel I would love to return to.
Thank you to all who made this stay possible.
Great photos, especially those of the interior. What a wonderful place to stay. And the view of the lake and mountains is incomparable. I know why you want to go back again.
